Setting up your Chromebook to connect to My Private Network’s VPN should take just a few minutes using the L2TP protocol. Please note that your computer needs to be connected to the Internet and able to browse the web before moving on with the instructions below. The steps below are for Chromebook Neverware CloudReady build and tested successfully on this and the ArnoldTheBat version but the steps should apply to most Chrome OS builds.

Getting Started

 
Click the status area at the bottom of your screen, where your account picture is located and select Settings.
 

 
In the Internet connection section, click Add connection . Select OpenVPN / L2TP.
 


L2TP Connection Configuration

 
In the Add private network box that appears, fill in the information as shown below:
 

 
Server hostname: gbr.mypn.co (assuming you’re setting up a VPN connection to the U.K)
Service name: strong>MPN GBR
Provider type: L2TP/IPsec + pre-shared key
Pre-shared key: private
 
Username: Your My Private Network Username
Password: Your My Private Network Password
 
Check the Save identity and password checkbox if you want to save your VPN credentials.
 
Note: If you wish to use our Free service, the servername that you need to use is fre.mypn.co and your connection will be rotated between different countries we have in our Free VPN cluster.
 
To connect to any of our other servers, (ie. our USA servers) simply change the Server name and rename the Connection name to reflect another location. For a list of server names, please refer to our complete list of servers here.
 
Once you’re ready, save the settings by clicking on Connect.


Enabling VPN Connection

 
The VPN should connect after you’ve saved the configurations in the previous step.
 
Once connected, you can check the status of the VPN connection by clicking on the status area, and you will see Connected to MPN GBR.
 

 
To disconnect the VPN connection, click on Connected to MPN GBR and then click Disconnect.
 

 
To reconnect to the VPN in the future, click on status area and click on VPN disconnected.
 

 
Under OpenVPN / L2TP , click on MPN GBR to connect.
 


Change Something?

 
If you have entered the wrong username and password or you want to change the server name, just follow the steps below to make changes:
 
1. Click the status area at the bottom of your screen, where your account picture is located. Select Settings .
 
2. In the Internet connection section, click Private network . Select MPN GBR.
 

 
3. A window with the connection name i.e. MPN GBR will appear.
 
If you would like to change the server hostname, simply click on the editable text box and enter the new server address.
 
If you would like to change the saved credentials, click on Configure and you can change the username and password.
 

 
Once done and click Close to save the settings.
